IBA's First Career Fair: A Complete Success

IBA's First Career Fair: A Complete Success

At IBA we strive to provide our community with a high quality of life. Our philosophy is that in order to do this we must make it accessible by offering a host of educational programs, arts, and opportunities for career advancement (in addition to our sustainable housing.) We are constantly working to expand our reach, and on Thursday, November 12 we hosted our first career fair with 32 employers, over 60 representatives and approximately 100 job seekers. The fair had a wide range of positions in different levels and industries such as healthcare, retail, finance, and even tailoring. There were opportunities for everyone. Job readiness organizations brought their students looking for entry level jobs, and there were also high level professionals who were interested in positions mostly in healthcare and environmental science. Both companies and job seekers left with a great impression. Employers were especially thrilled with the diversity and preparation from candidates, and several left with a few interviews lined up. Because we passed out a list of all the employers weeks in advance, job seekers were able to prepare and come ready to speak only with the companies they wanted to work for. “It was very good, they were very good quality candidates,” said Lynn Hyams, a representative from the Museum of Fine Arts. In order to accommodate all the employers and job seekers the career fair was held inside Villa Victoria Center for the Arts in our spacious hall. Although Irina Galatskaya, the director of our College and Workforce Program and the main organizer for the event, tells us that there were so many companies that wanted to participate that we would need an even bigger location! We are already thinking of ways to expand its success next year. For a full list of the companies in attendance visit: Career Fair.
