IBA 50th Anniversary
In 2018, we’re commemorating half a century of empowering and engaging individuals and families to improve their lives through high-quality affordable housing, education, and arts programs.

What Are We Celebrating?
In 1968, our founding members, a group of Puerto Rican activists fighting against displacement, created IBA; and, subsequently Villa Victoria, a 435-unit affordable housing community in Boston’s South End. Through the years, the neighborhood has served as a beacon of support for civil rights movements and low-income minority families. Thanks to the work of countless individuals, we’ve become one of the city’s leading community development corporations.
For 50 years, we’ve worked to build affordable housing, learning opportunities, economic mobility, and creative spaces for the people we serve; and together, we can build even more in the next 50 years.
This year, every dollar given helps to build a miniature home. Make a donation and your name or company will receive recognition on the exterior design of the five-foot replica house! Watch what our community can build together, I want to contribute:
Follow our fundraising efforts, watch as the meter moves closer to our goal and as the miniature house nears completion throughout the year.
A Year of Celebration:
IBA 50th Anniversary Kickoff – November 8, 2017
We began our celebration of 50 years by coming together for an evening filled with food and cocktails at the beautiful Atrium at Davio’s. We unveiled our calendar of exciting events and we honored to receive a starting donation of 10,000 from The Boston Foundation. You can watch our highlight video here!
The History of IBA, A Panel Discussion – April 11, 2018
Community members both present and past participated in a conversation about the colorful history of our organization: from the grassroots movement that inspired our formation to the present day impact of our programming on Boston’s growing Latino population. Read one scholar’s thoughts on IBA’s impact here.
Festival Betances – July 21 & 22, 2018
A staple in New England’s summer events scene, this 2-day long celebration of culture includes music, food, visual art, children’s activities, many Puerto Rican traditions, and – this year – a 50th-anniversary theme the whole family will get excited about. RSVP here.
IBA 50th Anniversary Gala – November 3, 2018
A night half-a-century in the making, sit down for dinner with some of Boston’s most influential individuals to reminisce about what we’ve been able to achieve together and imagine what our future partnerships can do for the community. More information and tickets: bit.ly/iba50gala
